How can you optimize your product experience?

Project background

As tablet computers gradually become an important tool for mobile office and creative production, the stylus is a core accessory, and its user experience directly affects the creative efficiency and satisfaction of professional users (such as designers, illustrators, students, etc.). In order to optimize its M-pencil product, Huawei commissioned our team to conduct special research, focusing on two types of professional users, drawing and note-taking, to gain in-depth insights into their usage behaviors, pain points, and needs. The research covered 19 in-depth users, including users of mainstream devices such as iPad Pro, Surface, and Wacom. Through retention tests, shadowing observations, and in-depth interviews, the performance and improvement directions of the stylus in real scenes were explored.

Core challenges

  1. What's the difference between experience and experience?Professional users have extremely high requirements for pressure sensitivity, accuracy, and paper-pen touch. However, Huawei M-pencil has gaps with Apple Pencil in terms of painting fluency, handwriting noise reduction, and side peak effects, especially in the creation of complex works.
  2. Whether the software ecology meets the workflow needs of users? Huawei's supporting applications (such as Yunji, Sketchbook) lack functions (such as layer naming, color correction curves) or have poor experience (zooming is stuck, and the rate of false touches is high), making it difficult to meet the needs of professional workflows.
  3. Do hardware designs meet user aesthetic needs?User feedback to M-pencil has a poor sense of ownership of the prism design, lack of artistic sense of metal materials, and loose pentips, magnetic absorption and loss, affecting confidence in long-term use.

Solutions

  1. User Experience Combination: Full capture of real use feedback from professional users in different settings, using a "four-stage closed-ring" hybrid study approach to Chinese user experience processes

(User identity combing)

  1. User image and breakdown:The multidimensional breakdown of professional users for the M-pencil study in China optimizes the core user product landscape

(User layer logic)

  1. Innovative scenarios_: recommendations for product improvement in response to pains in the user scene

(product excavated with pain point)

Value of results:

The research provides a precise direction for the iteration of Huawei's M-pencil, helping it upgrade from a "tool" to a "productivity partner", narrowing the experience gap with leading brands in the professional market, while strengthening the competitiveness of Huawei's tablet ecosystem. In the future, continued exploration of subdivided scene requirements (such as animation layered rendering, student class notes) will be a key breakthrough point.
